A personal message from Fred Wood.

I was raised in Tempe and educated in the Tempe District #3 school system, followed by a 1965 graduation from Tempe High. My parents, Bill and Betsy Wood, have been active in the Tempe community lifestyle since we moved here in 1958. My mother taught music at McKemy Junior High School from 1964 to 1967.

I married Julie Hillman, the daughter of Phil and Pauline Hillman in 1968 and we both graduated from Arizona State University in 1969.

After living in California for several years, we returned to Tempe to raise and educate our two children. Presently I am the owner of Frederick T. Wood, Family Dentistry. Julie is a former teacher in the Kyrene and Tempe Elementary School Districts.

As you know, the City of Tempe is going through a period of rapid development in the Rio Salado Project. There also will be a number of city and private redevelopment projects in the next four years. This growth provides us with the opportunity to maintain and improve upon the quality of life for all Tempeans.

We are now at a crossroads with respect to the transportation issues which face the City of Tempe and Maricopa County. The revitalization of Tempe by the Rio Salado Project will require an invigorated school system to serve the youth of our city moving into these growth areas.

My experience in city government, education, and local issues should prepare me to help meet the challenges for our city during the next four years on the Tempe City Council.
