Dr. Fred Wood is a candidate for member of the Tempe City Council. I am a supporter of his candidacy for this office and let me tell you why. Fred has been quite active in the community for a number of years. As a dentist who has his practice in Tempe, he has a long track record of serving those who fall between the "cracks" with regard to available dental services. This is a personal commitment he has made. Fred has made himself available to serve on committees when asked by the Tempe Union High School District as well as the other districts serving our community. He currently is an elected member in his 4th year on the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board. He has demonstrated his abilities to serve the electorate well Mary Fances Lewis.jpg (14848 bytes)
during his term. Fred graduated from Tempe High School and after receiving his degree in dentistry and a brief time practicing in California, chose to return to Tempe-because of the quality of life and type of community it is. Fred has given his time to serve on boards for the City of Tempe as asked and has successfully and diligently performed his duties. He also has a strong commitment to community supported activities such as the Tempe All-City Association. This is a group of businessmen and community members who pool resources and raise funds to recognize the best of our student athletes in our high schools. Most of all, I support Fred because I believe all the aforementioned areas have proven that he will indeed represent fairly and thoroughly all the citizens of Tempe. He is sincere in his desire to serve. His track record with involvement in committees, the school board and the volunteer service for the City shows that he takes seriously his assignment and works well with others. Please join me in supporting Fred Wood for City Council Member of Tempe.

James D. Buchanan
Governing Board, Tempe Union High School District

I am writing in reference to Dr. Fred Wood's candidacy for a seat on the Tempe City Council. I first met Dr. Wood eight years ago and have become very well acquainted with him since his election to the Tempe Union High School District in November of 1996. During his service on our Governing Board, Dr. Wood has distinguished himself as an insightful, composed leader who understands our community's needs and how best to meet them. Dr. Wood has established strong, productive working relationships with our district staff and, by doing so, has enabled us to address difficult issues in a highly professional and effective manner. Dr. Wood served as our Governing Board President during 1999 and effectively set the Governing Board agenda for a successful year. Much of our success can be directly attributed to his vision for our school district and his ability to articulate that vision to our staff and community at large. James Buchanan.jpg (11151 bytes)
His integrity and commitment to the common good is apparent in every action that he takes. We are very fortunate to have a citizen of Dr. Wood's caliber serving on our Governing Board. I have enjoyed working with Dr. Wood and am pleased that he is seeking to extend his service to our community through his City Council candidacy.  His honesty, integrity, leadership abilities, plus his past and present commitment in serving our community makes Fred a clear choice for a council seat.

Sincerely,

James D. Buchanan
